Tile Art In Silver City, N.M.

As careful readers of this blog may have noted,

 I have posted on tile mosaic, murals, and manufacturers in Silver City, New Mexico,

 as well as the artists who practice such work.

For such a small town there is a lot of ceramic art.

Above, is a small work that we noticed 

walking around a residential area in the historic part of town.

Although it is small and at the bottom of a wall

it jumped out at us.

we stopped by Syzygy Tile for a tour of their operations, 

expertly led by the showroom manager Patrick Hoskins.

This is the third post in a series on ceramic artist Cecilia Stanford,

and this time we will look at the tile work she has done in her home.

What better place to look at tile than the bathroom.

In the last post 

we were introduced to the home and studio of Cecilia Stanford, 

(Cecilia Stanford's Ceramic Art In Silver City, N.M.),

now let's take a look at her studio.

The day we were there she was between projects 

and moving things around so things were a bit cluttered 

but what I noticed were lots of large flat work tables at various heights.

The old lumberyard where she lives and works provides lots of room.

and when I finally realized her name she generously invited Allison and I over

 to meet and see her home and studio.

 in Silver City, N.M. the other day.

Since we are in Silver City, N. M. for a good part 

of this summer I want to continue with some

 of the building techniques that I see around town.

We are currently in Silver City, New Mexico

 and yesterday I went by this beautiful mosaic wall 

and the owner and artist, Jan, was happy to let me take photos.

What Is Wrong With This House?

We are currently in the Silver City, New Mexico area

 and just down the street from where we are staying 

is this seemingly empty but very new house

 in the county just outside the city limits.

So far we have not seen anybody in or around this house.

 We don't know if it a foreclosure or what.

 There is no for sale sign and it just seems 

to have been sitting empty for quite awhile.

Gila Resources Information Project

     We are currently in Silver City, New Mexico and just became aware that GRIP ( Gila Resources Information Project ) had a section of their web site devoted to  sustainability and green design. Just scroll down the page to the tabs on sustainability and sustainably built homes and click on for a tour. These are some nice homes and give a good over view of green building techniques. There is a lot going on in this area in alternative building and this web page was put together for last years Viva Verde Conference that was organized by GRIP. This is a great group of people working on a grass roots effort to protect the area and its environment.
