For as long as I can remember I have tried to creatively reuse materials,

especially recycled lumber.

In this post let's look at four ideas for reusing glass bottles.

Leonard Knight's Salvation Mountain In Niland, California

One of the more amazing places we have been over the years is Salvation Mountain, 

built by Leonard Knight not far from the south eastern shore of the Salton Sea

just outside the town of Niland, California.

Allison had been wanting to go there for quite a while 

and this winter we had the opportunity to see this part of the world,

and she provided the photos for this post.

I first became aware of this shipping container building

 almost a year ago when I wrote my first post on it,

Recycling Old Mobile Homes

In the last month or so Low Rent Renaissance Blog 

has done a series on deconstructing a mobile home:

Well, recently we were at El Dorado Hot Springs in Arizona

 and they have been deconstructing a number of old mobile homes

 and reusing the materials.

Above is a shed they constructed from lumber from the floor, walls, and roof.

Unconventional Homes-A Glow In The Desert

     I just saw this article in the New York Times and thought that if this isn't alternative building, what is. The article is A Glow in the West Texas Desert and is about The Southwest Texas Alternative Energy And Sustainable Living Field Laboratory or the work of John Wells. His blog site is The Field Lab. Kites And The Future Builders Of Mexico

In the neighborhood where our trailer park is,

 here in Alamos, Sonora, 

the kids fly homemade kites most every day.
