Portals - High Style To Low Brow

With summer coming on I thought it would be nice to revisit the portal.

The above portal surrounds a courtyard in Patzcuaro, Michoacan.

Sunflowers grace this portal on the Ranchos De Taos Plaza in New Mexico
with a decidedly different flavor.

For more on the plaza see my posts:

And you may remember the above home in my post:

This was the old Bella hotel in Lake Valley, New Mexico,
which I used not long ago in the post More On The Hip Roof.

You can see more of Lake Valley in the post:
or check out the LABEL for Building In Kingston, New Mexico
in the right side bar.

For the high style we go back to Mexico
and another portal surrounding a courtyard in Patzcuaro.

These next two are in Alamos, Sonora.

Allison noticed this beautiful brick vault ceiling
as we were walking around town.

The above photo looks through the front window
of an art gallery to the portal.

Another two story portal
surrounding a courtyard in Patzcuaro.

Step right up...

...to this portal in Alamos.

For more on portals see my posts:
or go to Portals in the LABEL section in the right side bar.

  1. I am going to have to have a rain catchment roof and so don't want a flat lean to roof...any ideas??

  2. I have not ignored your question but we have not always had internet and then google would not let me post a comment yesterday. It seems to be an on going problem.
I can't really help without knowing more about you question, but certainly a pitched roof is always better and metal is best for rain catchment as the water is cleaner. Hope that helps some. Good luck.
