I had the pleasure to meet Senior Porfirio Bustillo,

  a mason in Alamo, Sonora who specializes in fireplaces.

These next couple posts will concentrate on the work he is doing 

on his house which is under construction.

Leonard Knight's Salvation Mountain In Niland, California

One of the more amazing places we have been over the years is Salvation Mountain, 

built by Leonard Knight not far from the south eastern shore of the Salton Sea

just outside the town of Niland, California.

Allison had been wanting to go there for quite a while 

and this winter we had the opportunity to see this part of the world,

and she provided the photos for this post.

Anthony Shadid's House Of Stone In Marjayoun, Lebanon

I recently became aware of a set of videos to accompany the new book House of Stone

by the recently departed Anthony Shadid,

which follows his remodeling of the family home in Marjayoun, Lebanon.

Anthony Shadid, an American by birth, 

was a Middle East journalist who died tragically last month,

of of an acute asthma attack while on assignment.

These videos provide a fascinating look at the remodeling process

that he goes through in bringing back the family home

 after years of abandonment.

I have not read the book but it looks good.

was to meet the artist Maria Eggleston at her home.

There is much to cover here and in the next few posts,

In the last post 

we were introduced to the home and studio of Cecilia Stanford,

now let's take a look at her studio.

The day we were there she was between projects 

and moving things around so things were a bit cluttered 

but what I noticed were lots of large flat work tables at various heights.

The old lumberyard where she lives and works provides lots of room.

(Tile Mosaic) without knowing that she had done the work 

and when I finally realized her name she generously invited Allison and I over

 to meet and see her home and studio. 

Fixer Upper In Alamos, Sonora

We met some folks from New Mexico 

who were fixing up this house in Alamos, Sonora 

and they invited us over to take a look.

Pat and Steve live part of the year in Abiquiu, New Mexico 

and and the rest of the time here.

As we approach the house on a steep hill we notice how they have

terraced it off creating lots of space on different levels.

When the weather gets hot it is nice to head up to Arroyo Seco 

a few miles northeast of Taos on the way to the Taos Ski Valley 

and cool off.

Although the business above seemed closed

 I really like the metal work in the sign.
