The last two posts have been on The Black Range Lodge,
and Straw Bale Shop,
now let's look at this straw bale home
constructed by Catherine Wanek in Kingston, New Mexico.
This is a beautiful, inviting, and cozy home
built a few years ago out of straw bales.
Be sure to check out Catherine's web site strawbalecentral.com,
and her book The New Strawbale Home.
As you enter the home the first thing you see
is the faux bamboo behind the wood stove.
Well not really,
the bamboo is juniper branches covered in mud
and molded to look like bamboo.
This work in progress has yet to be painted,
but you can see some color samples in place.
It just shows what you can do with clay plaster.
The walls are plastered in clay by the amazing Carole Crews
This is also the title of her new book
which you can find out more about by clicking here.
Carole has done plastering workshops at the Black Range Lodge.
It is hard to believe that this beautiful wall is a clay plaster.
Next time we will take a look around Kingston.
