We had occasion to visit El Pedregal Nature Lodge and Retreat Center
last week and as soon as we reached the front gate
I knew that we were someplace special.
The entry gate has nice dry stack stone work.
This random ruble stone looks difficult to work
because of the rounded nature of much of the stone.
The mortared pilasters create strong posts to hinge the gates.
Once to the lodge the attention to detail is obvious.
The column base is stone.
The woodworking is traditional.
The purple highlight immediately caught my attention.
The stained concrete and wood counters
and cabinet create a pleasing combination in the kitchen.
And I particularly like the the curve in the bathroom vanity.
Next time we will look at the adobe casitas,
then the strawbale building,
and finally the landscaping.
Stay tuned.
